Cocktail Arcade Cabinet

Original post is on the french forum insert coins

I finally sold it in 2021. No new arcade project for now, but I'd like to work on a two players mini-Karateco or alike one day.

Initial setup

It's a generic Arkanoid-style Jeutel cocktail cabinet.

Overall, the wood veneer isn't too damaged.

I opened the player 1 control panel; the slatted buttons are all wired to the same two wires (that's a lot of buttons just for Arkanoid), and the spinner is loose. This plate will be replaced for a layout with a joystick + spinner + 3 buttons.

Inside, we have a dusty PCB and everything that goes with the screen (the screen is marked: I can see the game over and the Arkanoid title once it's turned off).

The top panel is already cut out for horizontal positioning of the screen as an option.

A bit of electronic

The 14" monitor electronic is probably an Intervideo F.S.T VP100series.

Adjacent to the power supply, there are two additonal boards (A003 and CMP2), it seems one of them might be an anti-tilt protection.

Renovate the wood unit

I choose a light grey painting for the inside which is a lot cleaner than a dark/black color which is a bit depressing:

The lower part has some scratches and needs some preparation and sanding to have a slick finishing:

Then I setup a black color with a resin-based paint on both wood and metal parts:

One of the two coin selector was in fact a working 2 euros unit:

VGA to Scart adapter

For the video I used an HDMI to VGA converter, and then a VGA to CGA converter (GBS 8100) with a scart adapter.

This is the schematic I used for the adapter. Thanks to the +5V/+12 you have an automatic switch to the auxiliary video input on the connected TV.

I had some try and learn iterations before success:
