You should read Cosmodoc!

The Cosmodoc project is an unbelievable software archeology project documenting the complete code reconstruction of the Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure game released in 1992 on the IBM PC platform by Apogee Software.

As explained in its dedicated homepage, Scott Smitelli even came into reproducing the game executable with the exact same bytes through the Cosmore game project.

This is a beautiful software archeology project and a must read for all oldschoolers!

It is a deep dive in many low-level hardware and system programming topics.
